Great Canadian actor, passchendaele Canadian story, great moment in Canadian history Fact-based war drama about an American battalion of over men which gets trapped behind enemy lines in the Argonne Forest in October France during the closing weeks of World War I. Passchendaele is one of the worst films I have ever seen. Color Black and White. A bold, passionate, well-crafted and patriotic piece of Canadain film.
I highly recommend this film. Dunne feels responsible for David’s wellbeing and reenlists as a private under his mother’s maiden name McCrae. A story about a group of soldiers’ last days before the battle of the Somme inshowing the conditions in the trenches during World War I, and taking you into the minds of the soldiers.

As a Military History student, I had no issues with the historical accuracy of the movie. As a director, Gross paints in big, emotive strokes, and though his dialogue often feels too tied to historical fact, this old-fashioned, patriotic war movie has its heart in the right place.
Like many veterans, he was reticent about sharing his experiences with his family. But it is infused with the stoicism of people who know it is their job to try to find meaning within an insane situation.
The ending scene shows David Mann, who now has only one leg and uses a wheelchair; Sarah Mann; David’s girlfriend Cassie; and Dunne’s best friend Royster Gil Bellows paying tribute at Dunne’s grave on his home farm.
